This Privacy Policy explains how &Friends Ltd (trading as Near X Far) ("we", "our", "us") collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use our recipe app Umami ("the App").

1. Information We Collect
When you use the App, we may collect the following information:
- Account Information (via OAuth providers such as Google/Apple): your name, email address, and profile picture.
- Saved Recipes & Usage: recipes you save, and the number of times you attempt to convert a recipe (for fair use and community features).
- Analytics Data: information about how you interact with the App (e.g. screens viewed, features used).
- Technical Data: device information, app version, and crash reports.
- Push Notifications: device tokens required to send you notifications.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and improve the App’s functionality.
- Save and manage your recipes.
- Track usage (e.g. recipe conversions) for community and fair‑use purposes.
- Monitor performance, diagnose issues, and fix bugs.
- Analyse behaviour to improve the App (via analytics).
- Send push notifications (e.g. reminders, recipe updates).
- Manage subscriptions and freemium access.
Converted recipes may remain available to the community even if you delete your account.
3. Data Storage & Services We Use
We store your data securely using trusted third‑party services:
- Supabase – user accounts, recipes, and data storage.
- Cloudinary – recipe images.
- PostHog – product analytics.
- Sentry – error reporting.
- AppsFlyer – attribution and campaign tracking.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) – push notifications.
These providers may process data outside the UK/EU, but only in compliance with GDPR/UK GDPR using appropriate safeguards.
4. Subscriptions & Payments
We use RevenueCat, which connects directly to the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. We do not process or store your payment information. Please refer to Apple or Google for their respective privacy policies.
5. Your Rights
Under data protection laws (UK GDPR/EU GDPR/CCPA), you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request corrections to your personal data.
- Request deletion of your account and data.
- Object to or restrict certain processing activities.
- Export your data in a portable format.

6. Data Retention
We retain your data only for as long as necessary to provide our services, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes. Converted recipes remain as part of the communal database even if you delete your account.
7. Children’s Privacy
The App is not aimed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you in the App or by email. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
